Dalida, with her perfect body, model size, and glamorous movements, was a fashion icon. Her look was sexy, fifties, swinging London, candy-coloured, theatrical… Dalida didn’t leave anything to chance, she loved fashion and fashion designers loved her. She was dressed by the biggest names both on stage and off, in haute couture or prêt-àporter. Yolanda, the Miss Egypt with the incredible figure, became Dalida and brought the house down at Bobino with Bambino. She was the embodiment of the Mediterranean, sunny and tragic with a languid accent. A small waist, shapely hips and chest, bare shoulder, the small of her back – all her features were breathtaking. She was sophisticated, always impeccably dressed, perfectly made-up, wellaccessorised, and a superb performer. She wore 1950s New Look dresses by Carven, and a Hollywood-style provocative red sheath by Jean Dessès. She was understated and chic in Loris Azzaro, wore sixties pinafore dresses by Balmain and Michel Fresnay’s sequinned disco costumes in the 70s, then was classic and timeless in Yves Saint Laurent.
